The tour starts at the ruins on the north side of the Cathedral where we learn about the conditions in the prison cells in the basement of the town hall which was on this site in the late 14th century.

The guide will speak how witches were dealt with during this period, and about Bishop Jørgen Erikson who literally threw hot coals on the bonfires.

The tour continues to the area around Breibakken, previously called Steglebakken. It is believed that the town’s correctional facility was located here, and that the prisoners were tortured into confessing at this site.

Smedgaten 2 has a special story to tell about two lovers, a sailor’s wife and a tailor who in 1845 committed a murder by poison.

The tour continues to Søregata, also known today as Skogata , but in the 1800s Subakanalen was more a street for men than for women.

Duration: 1,5 hour

Price: 150 NOK per person (minimum 15 people).

Addtional cost after 7 pm, 500 NOK.

The tour can be combined with a dark beer tasting!
